Two for the Price of One
July 16, 2007 — Shannon BlackOkay, so I’m thinking I might eventually move back here to this blog, perhaps even sooner rather than later, but for now, I’m having fun blogging at my new location (I’m past the initial pangs of withdrawal and abandonment that I felt when I left here), so I think I might stick it out there, too.
Meanwhile, the coolest thing happened to me this morning, and I couldn’t blog about it on my new blog, and I couldn’t tell anyone because they’d all think I was nuts, so I am going to post it here, since this is where it all began anyway.
Are you ready for it?
I actually saw both of the Priuses today.
Yes, I know, I have no life. Tell me something I don’t know.
And I guess I might as well just turn this into my Prius-sighting blog, since that’s all I ever talk about anymore.
So onto the story.
I had to make a stop on the way to work, so I took a slightly different route. And when I made a left turn onto the road that was going to take me to my destination, I saw one of the Priuses (the one I don’t normally see, since it was coming from the opposite direction) sitting there at the light as I turned. I totally stared at the guy, and he saw me, and must have thought I was a complete loon. I’d made eye-contact with the other, more familiar, Prius driver on Friday when I was on my way home. I passed him and we both had our windows down and I looked across at him and he looked back at me. So I like to think that, at some point today, they’ll manage to be having a conversation and the crazy girl driving a blue car who always stares at them whenever she sees them will just magically come up. And then they’d search the net and find out I’d been blogging about them. And then they’d call the police to come and arrest me for stalking or something.
A girl can dream, can’t she? Well, all except that last part. That would kind of suck.
Anyway, after I made my stop, I continued on my way, and figured I wouldn’t see the other one because I had altered my normal route. But then I saw him, happening to catch him in an later part of my drive than I normally do (since I was actually on time for work instead of running a little late, like I usually am), and thus the two-for-two company Prius sighting was attained.
Speaking of Priuses (or is it Prii?), this is kind of an interesting read.

I work in the office next to the man who used to work for the engineering firm and drive one of the Prii that you have been blogging (and blogging) about. He was driving back from a trip to Jackson, Mississippi one day and saw the same Prius he used to drive in a ditch at the side of the road after it had been in a wreck. How’s that for a Prius spotting?

You’re kidding? That’s hilarious. Definitely tops all of my stories. Typical.
How long ago was that? Because when I first started seeing the first one, it was all banged up like it had been wrecked. So I guess it was probably the same one as that one.
Now I feel like I’ve been peering into some really small, incestuous engineering world. Kind of creepy.

I’m not sure, he told me about it a few weeks ago. He called the driver on the cellphone to see if it was him and check if he was ok (he was). My current company has apparently also considered purchasing a Prius to use as a company vehicle. They make good vehicles for tooling around town to run errands. My next car may likely be a Prius or another hybrid.

It’s been about a month and a half since I first posted about it, and I think it was about a week before that when I first started noticing it, and I only noticed it in the first place because it was banged up on the side from some kind of accident.
I still think the Prius is an odd choice for a company car, but as I’ll never own my own company with it’s own cars, it’s a moot point. I might consider getting a hybrid someday (though it’s unlikely it’ll ever happen), but I just don’t much like the way the Prius looks…though, I must admit, they’re growing on me a bit the more I see them around.

Girl, you have GOT to decide where you’re going to blog.

I know, I’m terrible. I’m sticking with the new for now, and I’m going to try to be fairly disciplined about that. It’s just that discipline has never particularly been my strong suit.
